Density
17 p. x 26 r. = ok 12.5 cm with “rice” pattern.
1 square = approx. 12x12 cm, with a diagonal of 18 cm.
1 triangle = approx. 18 cm on the long side and 12.5 cm on the short side
side.
Techniques and tricks
M1 (increase) – Raise the broaches between the knitting needles, and putting it on the left knitting needle, knit it behind the back wall.
skp (decrease) – Slip 1 p. knit 1, pick up the slipped stitch and throw it over the knitted one.
sk2p (double decrease) – Slip 1 st as knit, 2 in. faces, pick up the removed loop and throw it over the knitted one.
Patterns
Rice (even number of loops)
Row 1: *k1, p1; repeat from * to the end.
Row 2: purl over knit, knit over purl.
Next repeat Row 2.
Rice (odd number of loops)
Row 1: k1, *p1, k1; repeat from * to the end.
Row 2: knit over knit and purl over knit.
Next repeat Row 2.
Note 1
- The cardigan consists of 83 pieces: 39 squares, 40 triangles, 2 pieces for the neck and 2 pieces for the armpits. The body consists of 25 squares, 20 triangles and 2 neck parts. Each sleeve consists of 7 squares, 10 triangles and one underarm piece. The pieces are sewn together according to the pattern to make a cardigan.
- Triangles are knitted using the pattern shown in Fig. The squares are knitted in three different patterns.
- Some parts are knitted with yarn of the same color. The remaining parts are knitted with yarn of two different colors, alternating 2 rows of one color with 2 rows of another color.
- All parts are knitted in turning rows.
- The bottom edge, trims, neckline and cuffs are finished with an elastic band.
- Circular knitting needles are needed for knitting elastic bands. If desired, 83 pieces can be knitted on straight knitting needles.
Triangles slanted to the right
(knit 32 - 1 color B and A; 3 colors C; 7 colors D; 2 each from a combination of colors C/B, C/D and D/B; 3 from a combination of colors D/A and D/C; 4 from color combinations A/C and B/D)
Note 2
When knitting in two colors (eg C/B), start with the first color and
alternate 2 rows of each color.
Cast on 17 stitches.
Knit row 1 of pattern fig.
Row 1 (RS): Work in pattern to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1 – 16 stitches.
Row 2: Work the rice pattern to the end of the row.
Row 3: Work in pattern to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1 – 15 stitches.
Row 4: Work the rice pattern to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1-4 until 3 stitches remain, ending with row 4.
Track. row (IS): Sk2p – 1 st.
Close the loops.
Triangles slanted to the left
(knit 6 – 1 with color B; 2 with color D; 1 each from a combination of colors C/B, D/A and D/C)
Cast on 17 stitches. Knit row 1 of pattern fig.
Row 1 (RS): K1, skp, work in pattern to end of row – 16 stitches.
Row 2: Work in pattern to end of row.
Row 3: K1, skp, work in pattern to end of row – 15 stitches.
Row 4: Work in pattern to end of row.
Repeat rows 1-4 until 3 stitches remain, ending with row 4.
Track. row (IS): Sk2p – 1 st.
Cast off the last stitch.
Small triangles
(knit 2 – 1 with color B and 1 with color D)
Cast on 17 stitches. Knit row 1 of the rice pattern.
Row 1 (RS): K1, skp, work in pattern to end of row – 16 stitches.
Repeat Row 2 until 3 stitches remain.
Next row (IS): Sk2p – 1 st.
Cast off the last stitch.
Squares with a horizontal pattern
(knit 15 – 2 with color A; 5 with color C; 4 with color B and 4 with color D)
Cast on 17 stitches. Purl 1 row.
Row 1 (RS): knit.
Row 2: K1, (k3, p3) twice, k4.
Rows 3-5: Starting with a knit row, work in stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on back) for 3 rows.
Row 6: K1, (P3, K3) twice, K1.
Rows 7 and 8: Work 2 rows in stockinette stitch.
Rows 9-24: Repeat rows 1-8 2 more times.
Knit 1 row.
Close the loops.
Squares C
(knit 12 – 5 with color A; 1 with color C; 3 with color B and 3 with color D)
Cast on 17 stitches. Knit 1 row.
Row 1 (RS): knit.
Row 2: K1, (K1, P1) 3 times, K1.
Rows 3 and 4: k1, (k3, p2) 3 times, k1.
Row 5: K1, (K1, P4) 3 times, K1.
Row 6: Knit.
Rows 7-24: Repeat rows 1-6 3 more times.
Knit 1 row of faces.
Close the loops.
Squares patterned rice
(knit 12 - 2 with color B; 5 with color C; 1 each with color D and A; 2 each with alternating colors C/B and A/B)
Cast on 17 stitches. Knit a rice pattern for 26 rows.
Close the loops.
Armpit details (knit 2)
Using Yarn D, cast on 14 stitches.
Rows 1-5: Work 5 rows in the rice pattern.
Row 6 (RS): K1, skp, work in rice pattern to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1 – 12 sts.
Rows 7-30: Repeat rows 1-6 until 4 stitches remain.
Rows 31-36: Work 6 rows in the rice pattern.
Row 37: K1, k2tog, k1 – 3 stitches.
Row 38: Sk2p – 1 stitch.
Cast off the remaining stitch.
Left neck detail
With color C, cast on 12 sts. With color C, knit row 1 of the “rice” pattern.
Row 1 (RS): In color C, k1, M1, work in rice pattern to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Row 2: In color A, work in rice pattern.
Row 3: In color A, k1, M1, work in rice pattern to last 3 sts, inm 2. purl behind the back walls, k1.
Row 4: In color C, work in rice pattern.
Rows 3-24: Repeat rows 1-4 5 more times.
Rows 25 and 26: Repeat rows 1 and 2.
Close the loops.
Detail of the right side of the neck
Using Yarn B, cast on 12 sts. Work row 1 of rice pattern.
Row 1 (RS): K1, skp, work in rice pattern to last stitch, k1.
Row 2: Knit in a rice pattern.
Row 3: K1, spp, work rice pattern to last stitch, k1.
Row 4: Knit in a rice pattern.
Rows 3-24: Repeat rows 1-4 5 more times.
Rows 25 and 26: Repeat rows 1 and 2.
Close the loops.
Assembly
Following the diagrams, sew all the parts together. Sew the sleeve seams, then sew the sleeves into the armholes.
Bottom bar
From the right side with yarn D, pick up 148 knits, placing them evenly along the bottom edge of the body.
